Introduction to Healthscope / Quest Laboratories

The Healthscope Group (Healthscope) is a leading private healthcare operator within Australia that uniquely operates in every State and Territory, as well as in Asia. Their reach of facilities around Australia firmly places Healthscope as the second largest private hospital provider, operating 43 private hospitals.

The company includes a leading pathology business with facilities in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Malaysia. Healthscope also has a growing medical centres division with over 45 clinics and a diagnostic imaging division centred in major hospitals. The company was formed in 1985 and listed on the Australian Stock Exchange in 1994

In October 2010, Healthscope was acquired by Asia Pacific Healthcare Group Pty Ltd, a company owned by funds advised and managed by The Carlyle Group and TPG Capital, and subsequently delisted.

In December 2004, Healthscope Limited acquired the Gribbles Group. Founded in 1936, Gribbles Australia is an international pathology group based in Australia with services in New Zealand, Malaysia and Singapore. Its pathology services cover the broad range of human pathology in all disciplines. It also provides veterinary pathology and environmental/industrial analytical services. Gribbles Australia is now one of the three largest pathology providers in Australia, employing over 2000 staff in a network of over 40 laboratories throughout Australia.

In May 2005, Healthscope through its wholly owned subsidiary, Gribbles Group Pty Ltd acquired Quest Laboratories (Singapore). The acquisition of Quest provides a solid platform for Healthscope to significantly improve the breadth and depth of its pathology service offered in Singapore.

Continuing its expansion plans in Singapore, Healthscope acquired DoctorsLab Diagnostics in December 2006.
